The Origins of Coffee

Coffee in the modern world

Coffee (known in Arabic as qahwa) today is a staple in most people’s diets whether young or old and whether self-employed, working or a student. We as a people, particularly those from the West, have become almost dependent on coffee to get through our days.

The origins of coffee

Though even with our infatuation with coffee, not many of us are aware of its origins.

Coffee was originally discovered in Ethiopia or Yemen (there is difference of opinion amongst historians) and spread from there throughout the Muslim world and into Europe.

This is one of the reasons why many today refer to coffee as a “Muslim invention.”
